Business Success depends entirely on one Quintessential rule!

Personally, I don’t watch too much television. My drive for continued business success is usually balanced with self-improvement and family time, which usually leaves little room for other things. If I do watch television, it’s usually shows focused on business or culture – “The Apprentice” and “The Amazing Race” definitely make the cut. Then of course, there’s hockey and boxing which I rarely, if ever, miss. Go Habs Go! Asia and I also watch a lot of movies, but I’ve convinced myself that our movie time is NOT television time!

I was chilling with the fam and browsing the food network the other night and got a chance to watch the one and only Chef David Adjey’s new show called “The Opener”. The show focuses on new restaurant owners that need help getting their doors open. These owners are under challenging circumstances like budget management, lack of experience or a lack of a menu (Yes – No Menu) just days before serving diners. Chef Adjey comes in with his lifetime experience in the biz and helps newbie entrepreneurs work out all the kinks and provides them with a reality check to help them become successful in their mission to own a profitable restaurant.

It’s a pretty cool show and I will definitely try to catch more when time permits. As I was watching the show, I got to thinking about what is probably the single most significant rule for any business to succeed on any level. This applies to the Internet, brick and mortar businesses and everything in between.

Whenever I dish out advice on true business success factors, I always cover all the vital ones like taking action with preciseness, being disciplined, working hard and essentially knowing what your goals are. There’s always one thing that’s always implied that I probably don’t emphasize enough. I was reminded of this one important rule by watching the Opener. It’s very obvious but not always so clear to many of us.

It’s the single most incredible rule that applies to every single (I mean every single) business that ever succeeded on any level. None of the other business success factors mean a thing if you don’t follow this RULE!

The ONE quintessential business success rule that trumps them all is this:

You have to know how to Finish!

You have to be completely committed to finishing what you start.

YES – Watching the OPENER reminded me how important it is to be a FINISHER!

Easy enough right? If this rule is so obvious and so critical how come so many people struggle with it? I can attest, just from talking to some of the peeps that downloaded our Free Blog Revenue Ebook, many haven’t even read half the thing after having it in their possession for a month. If you’re an experienced online entrepreneur, I can understand paging through it or reading it here and there. But if you don’t know the game and have a sincere interest in making money online yet won’t finish reading the e-book, you’ll have a very hard time seeing an entire business come together from start to finish.

I’m just using our e-book as a clear cut example of how hard it is for many to abide by this rule. This applies to startup entrepreneurs in all kinds of different situations. You have the willpower, the action plan, the insights and the fortitude but if you DON’T FINISH – No Business. CASE CLOSED.

The same goes for the new restaurateurs on “The Opener”. Concepts, dreams, plans and even skills need to find their way to the finish line. Some of the folks on the show are very intelligent, disciplined and hard working people. They have a dream and the guts to back it up by committing to building a restaurant. With everything on the line, even THEY need help to get over the last hump.

Deep down, we all know the rule and understand the rule and believe in the rule. It’s just amazing how many factors have to align in order to make things happen. It’s not always easy to finish something that is difficult even when your entire business success is riding on it.

Asia and I are always working on something, some new project, a new business, a new website. We constantly remind ourselves how important it is to complete our various missions. We’ve often been complimented on our ability to get things done. If we say it, we try to do it. We’re far from perfect and we make mistakes but we have the ability to see our vision through every single step. I suppose, we’ve gotten better with time and with every new project we’ve built, since every new step reinforces the next. Writing this article, I’m realizing how truly important the “Finish Rule” is above everything else.

A list of business success tips is never complete without the quintessential rule of being able to finish whatever you start. Hope this post really pushes you to complete whatever task or mission you have set for yourself at this very moment regardless of which stage you’re at. You can be just starting something or might have something on the backburner that is on hold. If you’ve done your homework and know it’s worthwhile, then do whatever it takes to get your mindset aligned with the concept of getting the job done. Becoming a master finisher is fundamental to your business success!

All this restaurant talk is making me hungry…
